After Olive’s twin sister’s entire wedding party comes down with food poisoning, she and the brother of the groom decide to take the honeymoon originally planned for the couple. Doing so means pretending they’re married, and that despite all their misgivings, maybe they do like each other after all. The only reason this isn’t a 5 star read for me is the lack of true character depth. I think both of the characters had realistic personalities and definitely weren’t one dimensional but I also didn’t feel the strongest connection to either of them. They worked really well as a pair but individually I wasn’t overwhelmed with love. You’ve got an enemies-to-lovers & fake-dating thing.
Nora Stephens, the heroine and narrator of Book Lovers, is the kind of driven woman usually left behind when a leading man leaves for greener pastures, which has happened to her more than once.

She chases her dreams, lets a man into her life, and finally lets her grown ass sister be a grown ass adult. I’ve heard people say it’s schitt’s creek-y but there aren’t enough charming characters to make that a thing. I love how this book doesn’t change Nora or punish her for being ambitious and hardworking. It’s so true that men are allowed to be obsessed with their work, whereas women who do the same are too often treated as if they have an illness. Overall, we thought this was a neat concept! It seems like a great tool for the indecisive reader or for the reader who thrives off the process of discovering a new book.
And that character never gets the happy ending. I read the first 67% of this book super fast. I was t h r i l l e d that I was enjoying my time. But I think looking back on that first two-thirds of the book, I was ignoring small and irritating things because I r e a l l y wanted to love this book.

Thank you to the duo known as Christina Lauren, Gallery, Threshold, Pocket Books and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review an arc of this book. This is where my rating dropped from a “it’s not great but it’s a three star because I’m liking it” to a “god, I liked it at first but can it end already” two stars. The first half wasn’t bad – it follows Olive, who’s twin sister Ami is getting married. When everyone falls sick after the wedding from eating shellfish, everyone except Olive and Ethan, Ami’s new husband’s brother.
